Our Story
Parlour Brew Co started the way a lot of good (and slightly ill-advised) ideas do — with home brewing, a few long walks, and a decision that escalated very quickly.
The three of us — Rick, Joe and Ben — are brothers-in-law who’d all been brewing at home for years. It started as a hobby, then became a bit of an obsession. We spent a lot of time brewing, talking about beer, and wondering what would happen if we took it a bit more seriously.
During the first lockdown, on a socially distanced walk, Joe floated the idea of turning that hobby into something bigger. Rick, assuming this was entirely theoretical, agreed in principle and didn’t give it much more thought.
A few days later, Joe sent over a Facebook Marketplace link to a 200-litre brew kit. Rick replied with a thumbs-up emoji, still convinced this was a joke.
It wasn’t.
On the next walk, Joe casually mentioned that he’d bought the kit. At that point, there was a brief moment of panic, followed by the realisation that we were now doing this properly. It also became clear that two people probably wasn’t enough, so we asked the obvious third choice. Ben agreed, and just like that, Parlour Brew Co existed.
The next question was where to put a brewery.
For a short while we thought Joe’s garage might work. It very quickly became obvious that it wouldn’t. Instead, Ben suggested an old, fairly grotty milking parlour that had seen much better days. It was cold, neglected and a long way from glamorous — but it had potential.
So we rolled our sleeves up and got to work. Cleaning, painting, fixing, and slowly turning it into a space we could actually brew in. Before firing up the main kit, we went even smaller, using a pilot system to test and refine the beers we loved drinking ourselves.
Out of that process came our first core beer: Garford Gold — a straightforward, well-balanced beer designed to be enjoyed by the pint. It set the direction for everything that followed.
We’re still hands-on, still focused on the details, and still making the kind of beer we want to drink. Parlour Brew Co might have started as a slightly accidental idea, but we’re very intentional about where it’s going.
